What does it mean to translate a text into another language? What is lost, what is transformed? The starting work, Crave, is a text with four intertwined voices (C, M, B, A), which alternates fragmented interventions with a “jazz” rhythm, with more extended pieces in the form of a stream of consciousness. Author Sarah Kane creates vivid, clear, chiseled images and uses them to sink into steep cracks, tearing apart dark inner shadow zones with violence and irony. The narrative flow follows a continuous emotional pulse: the relationships woven between the voices make the spoken words extremely necessary, which emerge like splinters of a visceral thought. One interpreter, four voices, one of which remains in English, maintaining the relationship with the linguistic “matrix” of the original text, creating short circuits of sound and meaning: Crave offers the opportunity to bring the theme of the complexity of the languages that surround us back to the center of a cultural and theatrical discussion.
