Operaestate Festival Veneto is a multidisciplinary festival of contemporary theatre, dance, opera and cinema, which takes places every year in the city of Bassano del Grappa and in the surrounding area.
Founded in 1981 as an opera production festival, it has been managed directly by the Municipality of Bassano del Grappa, in a network with over 20 Municipalities of the Pedemontana Veneta, ever since 1991. The Festival develops a programme of performances with the aim to value the most important places from an historical, architectural, artistic and environmental point of view. It promotes, in fact, the culture of this little-known part of the Veneto region through the setting of artistic projects in villas, castles, historic gardens, museums. These performances have sometimes also led to the redevelopment of spaces that were previously abandoned or not adequately valued.
In over forty years, the Festival has surged to a role of national and international importance, the diversity of its proposal being one of its greatest strengths. One of the main aims of the Festival is also to make the contemporary performing art scene accessible to a wider audience while raising the cultural value of the whole territory.
