Water Music: Suite No. 1 in F major, HWV 348
Music for the Royal Fireworks in D major, HWV 351
Festival's Production
Another grand celebration for the opening of Operaestate in Bassano, this time with music and fireworks, with the Orchestra positioned on the Ponte Vecchio, amplified on both banks and accompanied, in time with the music, by spectacular fireworks displays launched from platforms on the Brenta to illuminate the beauty of the recently restored Palladian Bridge. A musical celebration, then, with two compositions by Handel, created for two equally festive occasions: Water Music, composed for a party on the Thames requested by King George I, parade music capable of creating a strong figurative suggestion, and Music for the Royal Fireworks, written on commission from King George II to celebrate the Peace of Aix-la-Chapelle in 1749. Chronicles of the time speak of a magnificent performance conducted by the composer himself, with fireworks launched from a huge wooden structure. In Bassano, however, the fireworks will be launched from ten platforms placed along the river, always to the sound of music, thanks to the close connection between the orchestra and the artistic direction of Parente Fireworks, the creator of the spectacular displays of light.
