Von reflects on the transformation of energy into movement, with dance understood as a continuous dynamic metamorphosis in relation to the forces acting upon bodies and space, confronting the forces that move, change, and alter the body and its gestures. It explores the imaginary border and transition zone between what is clear and legible and what is dark and mysterious, in a dance of great energy and allure.

Von is conceived as a choreography of three elements: movement, light, and sound. Natural, physical, and political forces transform, deform, and move the bodies and their progression through time—the primary and omnipresent character of this creation.

"Von" is a German preposition meaning "from," which, in the choreographer's intent, refers to an unspecified elsewhere. A sense of mystery and the unknown permeates the entire creation: it relies on a magnetic flow, played out through a highly detailed score of variations in space, energy, and volumes of motion by Marta Ciappina and Giulio Petrucci—the sophisticated protagonists of the central duet—and Albanese himself, who opens the work with a brief prologue and closes it with a striking solo, a 15-minute whirlwind journey through the dynamic alterations of motion. The original music by Lorenzo Donadei (first part) and Luca Nasciuti (final solo), together with the lighting by Alessio Guerra that continuously remodulates the boundaries between light and dark, helps transform the stage into a sci-fi galaxy where, to borrow words from Brian Greene’s The Elegant Universe, "space and time can no longer be imagined as an inert stage on which the events of the universe are played out: they are themselves actors in the play." A fascinating show. (Francesca Pedroni).

Warning: stroboscopic lights are used during the performance.
