A recital by Giovanni Andrea Zanon on violin and Tony Siqi Yun on piano, two talented musicians now present in the most prestigious international concert halls, together for the first time for a refined journey through the great Romantic and virtuosic repertoire for violin and piano. The program opens with the famous Devil’s Trill Sonata by Giuseppe Tartini in the transcription by Fritz Kreisler, a work of extraordinary virtuosity and charm, followed by the melodic freshness and lively virtuosity of Sonatina No. 1 Op. 137 by Franz Schubert, and a selection of Lieder by the same author, a sublime example of intimate lyricism. The heart of the program is the Sonata No. 3 Op. 108 by Johannes Brahms, intense and passionate, as well as possessing extraordinary coherence and perfection in its thematic development. The concert concludes with the captivating Polonaise No. 1 Op. 4 by Henryk Wieniawski, rich in energy and brilliance.
Giovanni Andrea Zanon began studying the violin at the age of 2 and was admitted to the Pollini Conservatory in Padua at age 4, the youngest in the history of Italian musical institutions. During his musical career, he has won over 30 national and international competitions and has performed in some of the most prestigious halls, including: Carnegie Hall in New York, Teatro alla Scala, Teatro La Fenice, Philharmonie de Paris, Smetana Hall in Prague, Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, Konserthuset in Stockholm, and the Arena di Verona. He has collaborated with important conductors and has participated in numerous chamber music projects, which have led him to perform alongside great artists such as Pinchas Zukerman, Anna Netrebko, Mario Brunello, and Pablo Ferrandez. He plays the wonderful A. Stradivari “Marèchal Berthier” violin, Cremona 1716, from the Pro Canale Foundation in Milan.
Canadian pianist Tony Siqi Yun, gold medalist at the First China International Music Competition (2019) and recipient of the 2023 Lotto-Förderpreis of the Rheingau Music Festival, described by Pianist Magazine as “a true poet of the keyboard,” is rapidly becoming a highly sought-after soloist and recitalist. Following his acclaimed debut with the Philadelphia Orchestra, he debuted in the 2023-2024 season at Carnegie Hall with Yannick Nézet-Séguin and the Orchestre Métropolitain, performing Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2.
Other recent concert performances have included the Cleveland Orchestra, the Toronto Symphony, and the Orchestre Métropolitain de Montréal, the Orchestre de Chambre de Paris, the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, and at the Gewandhaus in Leipzig, in Düsseldorf, and in Luxembourg. In addition, he has made debuts with the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra and Jacek Kaspszyk, the Colorado Springs Philharmonic, the Nashville Symphony, and at the Aspen Festival with Xian Zhang.
