«"There is History with a capital H, found in books and read in schools, and then there is history that you carry on you like mud on your shoes—the kind that cannot be told without a trembling voice."

Tochi de guera

Tochi de guera is a "theatrical dialogue" that transforms historical research into living memory, retracing the front trilogy by writer Paolo Malaguti through the voice and direction of Mirko Artuso. What remains today of the Great War, besides the headstones, the stone monuments, and the faded names on plaques? There remain the stories of men who did not want to be heroes, of upended lands, and of a legacy that still vibrates beneath our feet. The heart of the narrative comes from the three novels Malaguti dedicated to the conflict: a journey through the mud of the Mount Grappa trenches, the mystery of Caporetto, and the harsh post-war life of the recuperanti (scavengers). While Malaguti weaves the thread of History and writing, Artuso gives body and voice to the protagonists of these pages, transforming literary analysis into scenic action. It is not just a tale of "what happened," but a reflection on "who we have become."

Through the spoken word and the author's testimony, the audience is led into a deep immersion where the boundary between book and stage disappears, restoring the human truth of an event that changed the world forever. Making the experience even more immersive is the soundscape curated by two masters of musical evocation: Sergio Marchesini on the accordion and Francesco Ganassin on the clarinets, with Laura Vigilante on vocals. Theirs is not a mere soundtrack, but a constant dialogue with the word. The emotion of a voice, the breath of the clarinet, and the sigh of the accordion evoke the wind of the high altitudes, the lament of the wounded valleys, and the echo of distant songs, transforming the abstraction of memory into a physical vibration that moves through the audience. The result is a profound immersion where the mud on one's shoes becomes shared memory and the iron found among the rocks is transformed into the symbol of a peace that can never be taken for granted.
