Sixty years after the disastrous flood of November 1966 in Valstagna, a new theatrical project has been commissioned to recount an event that left a profound mark on the life of the Valbrenta community. Through images, diaries, and the memories of the community, the production commemorates one of the greatest natural catastrophes suffered by the territory, when the fury of the river swept away houses, bridges, roads, and cemeteries. It also serves to remember the many volunteers who worked incessantly for weeks—the "mud angels" who, just as in Florence, did not hesitate to rush to the aid of the heavily stricken town.
"On November 4, 1966, an exceptional flood overwhelmed northern and central Italy. It was the flood of Florence and the Polesine, but also of Valstagna and the Valbrenta. Millions of cubic meters of water became an unstoppable battering ram that erased a community in just a few hours. Sixty years after that event, we return to speak with the remaining witnesses, but also with those who care for the river today. What has survived of that story in the collective memory? What was that wave unable to sweep away? How has the relationship with the Brenta changed in the valley? How will it change in the future? Only a line remains on the wall is the story of a river that is simultaneously a resource and a threat, yet one to which the destinies of the men and women of the valley have been indissolubly linked for centuries."
